Taste and See…

Last week on Wisdom Wednesday, we focused on expecting to see the Goodness of God in 2024. As I was reflecting this week on the journey it has taken to finally get to this place where I can say that I expect to see His Goodness, I had to ask myself this question

“Why? Why do I expect to see His Goodness?

The answer came to me almost on the heels of the question.

“Because I know Him.”

The psalmist, David, was called a man after God’s heart. Not because he was perfect – he failed in some pretty spectacular ways – but because he was in pursuit of God’s heart. He sought God’s face, he longed for Him. You can hear that yearning and desire to know God reflected throughout the Psalms.

Even though he failed often, David walked in repentance, he experienced God’s mercy, and his longing for God always brought him back. David penned the words “Oh taste and see that the Lord is good” because he KNEW the Lord was good. He had experienced God’s Goodness because he had a relationship with Him.

Walking with Jesus over the last 30 years, through valleys and over mountains, studying His Word, listening to His voice, and doing my best to follow Him, I have gotten to know Him too.

I’ve seen His Faithfulness, received His Mercy and Grace more times than I can count.

I’ve known His Compassion as He’s held my heart in grief, His Restoration as He’s picked up my broken pieces and made something beautiful from them.

I’ve seen His miraculous Provision, and experienced His Presence and Power at work in my life.

Like David, I have come to the place that I can say, “Taste and see for yourself – the Lord IS Good!”

But perhaps that isn’t your experience. Perhaps you’re struggling to trust and to expect His Provision and His Faithfulness. Perhaps you’re only beginning to get to know Him. Or maybe you‘ve been walking with Jesus for a while and just need to be reminded of Who He is and what He has done for us. Wherever you are in your faith journey, I encourage you to become intentional about your pursuit of Him. Approach getting to know Him as you would getting to know a new friend. Talk to Him. Ask questions. Share your heart with Him and search the Scriptures to see His heart and learn about His character. Lean in to hear His voice. He waits with open arms to draw you close.

May 2024 be the year you taste and see. He is Good!
